Special Projects and Gifts
Since the Gerald R. Ford Republican Women's Club was chartered in 1951, the Club has given yearly gifts over the years to the Kent County Republican Headquarters.
Just a few of the gifts donated include: a conference table and chairs, office equipment, file cabinets, bulletin board for the entry hall, PA system for the Meeting Room and two dozen folding chairs, satellite dish required for RNC "Town Hall Meetings". (The Ford Women hosted weekly), palm pilots for the headquarters staff and monetary support for special needs of the KCRC headquarters.
Special Projects include: Mel Trotter Mission (adopted a Room for the Women & Children Building), purchased bed, dresser, blankets, linens, essential toiletries etc. (Plaque on the door acknowledging gift). Books were donated for the children's library and the GRFRW purchased a table for their first annual fundraiser.
"Initiated" the adoption of a room (powder room on ground floor) during the refurbishing and remodeling of the Governor's Mansion on Mackinac Island and were able to get the Republican Women's Federation to join with us on this project. (Plaque on door acknowledging this gift of the RWFM).
Neighborhood outreach projects included helping to fill Thanksgiving baskets at an inner city church, providing socks for children for an ongoing project of another church & books for their after school tutoring program.
GRFRW supports several NFRW and RWFM Republican Scholarship programs as funds allow. Currently, we are supporting the RWFM Educational Memorial Scholarship for freshman women attending college for the first time.
The Dictionary Project includes placing dictionaries in the hands of individual 3rd graders in area schools as part of the NFRW (National Federation of Republican Women) project, the Mamie Eisenhower and Barbara & Laura Bush Literacy Projects. We also continue to donate books to various libraries reflecting our Republican philosophy & beliefs for America as well as outstanding Republicans.
Our club has provided support to our troops in Iraq by donating supplies for the Iraqi children and participating in the NFRW apron project which sends aprons signed with messages for our soldiers.
We are happy to provide support to Kent County Republicans.
